Our guidance team is here to focus your goals, support your dreams, and help you to identify the right schools and programs. With dedicated, individual attention, you’ll receive the right information, counselling and encouragement for postsecondary success.
All Grade 9 students are registered with MyBlueprint—an Ontario-based platform that matches students to potential post-secondary and career pathways based on their developing interests, strengths, skills, and goals—so that they can identify what courses they may need to complete to meet admission requirements.
Guidance is also instrumental in creating and revising personal education plans, the goal of which is to keep each student on track to fulfilling OSSD graduation requirements and identifying any specific courses that will help them enter their preferred postsecondary program. It’s easy for students to make personal appointments with our guidance team as needed to discuss course options and changes.
In Grade 9 and 10, we run workshops that focus on essential executive functioning themes including attention and engagement, time management and prioritization, emotional regulation, and organizational strategies. Additional topics include habit hacking, mindfulness and communication, trust-building and conflict resolution, mental health and personal wellness, and responsibility to our community.
For our Grade 11 and 12 students, the focus shifts to career talks, alumni panels, and university fairs to help students investigate different degrees and career paths, understand how the application process unfolds, and determine what university programs will best suit their personal goals.
Hands-on guidance is instrumental in helping our students build strong university and college applications for schools in Canada and abroad. Our Head of Guidance supports students throughout the entire process, answering questions about courses, postsecondary programs, and common social-emotional concerns like managing stress and anxiety.
We also work one-on-one with students before and during the university application cycle to ensure they've met all requirements for the universities and programs that best meet their academic strengths, interests, and career goals. Individual assistance with applications to schools—whether in Canada, the US, the UK or other countries—is available to all students, including help with additional requirements, supplemental documentation, and scholarship applications.
Grade 12 students join Hudson College Connect, our dedicated alumni platform, to receive mentorship and advice on postsecondary programs, industries of interest, and internships from the Hudson alumni community. After graduation, it’s a positive space where they can keep in touch with classmates and eventually become a mentor themselves!
