Lower School

Junior Years (Grade 1–5)

The junior grades at Hudson solidly ground students for academic challenges in the years ahead.

These years are critical to a child’s personal and academic development, as they establish foundational elements of numeracy and literacy alongside self-regulation and socialization skills.

With smaller class sizes of 20–22 students, our teachers can foster self-confidence, encourage critical thinking, and effectively differentiate.

We offer a rigorous program with excellent scaffolding to prepare students for the Middle Years. Saxon Math, novel studies from Grade 3 onwards, music, and coding are just a few curricular highlights.

Homework and Assessments

Students receive daily assignments and exercises to complete at home, with 10 minutes per grade level as a guideline – a Grade 2 student, for example, can count on around 20 minutes of homework.

Regular math and reading assessments inform instructional strategies and provide families with ongoing feedback. Students in Grade 3–8 complete the Canadian Test of Basic Skills each fall for an external benchmark of individual and grade-level academic progress.

Extended Care

Before-school care for registered students is available up to Grade 6, starting at 8:00 AM. After-school care for registered students is available up to Grade 6 until 6 PM. Fees and program options are available here.

Hot Lunches

Our in-house kitchen provides healthy, home-style hot lunches prepared from scratch every day. Each meal includes an entree selection with a side of vegetables, salad, or fruit alongside optional beverages. Families receive a new menu each month and select which daily meals to order online.
