We are adhering to Government of Ontario guidelines for school closure and reopening and will make decisions accordingly. See Weekly Updates »
Overall, we adhere to a schedule of virtual face-to-face learning of core subjects plus an additional period for virtual learning with the specialty teachers (Music, French, Gym). We also offer a virtual homework period for students to ask questions as well as independent work periods with assigned work.
We have moved forward in the expectations set out by the Ministry in all core subjects. As our elementary curriculum is enriched in math and language, we have exceeded Ministry expectations already.
As in our in-school classes, our teachers supplement the curriculum with unique learning experiences: cooking classes to enhance primary math, class discussions on novel studies, and online science experiments, for example.
The strength of our learning community is the basis of our successful online teaching program. Our teachers and administration meet often to review technology, resources, teaching practices, and student and staff well-being. Hudson Lower School has a number of annual traditions that involve all elementary students: an art show, a speech contest, and a spring recital. We are committed to accomplishing these traditions virtually.
