Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Students,
As we enter the last couple of weeks of preparation before the start of the 2020-2021 school year, Hudson College continues to access and evaluate our current high school program and its offerings in this unprecedented period. Our Return to School Plan was designed to easily adapt to new information regarding health and well-being protocols related to returning high school students to school.
First, with regard to the return of school, we will continue to open on September 8 as planned. Our continued small class sizes in relation to Ministry guidelines is allowing us to proceed with regular in-class programming.
Second, recent recommendations by education and health experts and further discussions with external bodies have led our high school to extend “real-time” online classes as an option to all students in Semester 1.
While we believe that learning in Hudson’s school environment is key to our students’ academic, social and emotional well-being, we recognize that the decision by parents to send students back to school in September in these uncertain times is not being made lightly. Hence, the additional option of online learning is being made available to our Hudson families.
As you can appreciate, this adds another element to the workings of a high school and thus, there are a number of guidelines that are being implemented to assist in student management and teacher instructional practice.
Students are required to register to attend “real-time” online classes.
If a student registers for online classes, they will not be able to alternate between online and in-class teaching throughout the week. This would create significant disruption to the management of students during the school day, the potential tracing of students, classroom teaching practice, and school-wide activities. Students who register will do so based on the understanding that they will remain committed to attending online classes in two-week blocks.
Please be advised of the following guidelines for online learning:
- Students must attend classes as per timetables. Taped classes will not be provided to students who fail to attend online classes.
- Students must also remain in the “real-time” online class throughout the entire class period.
- Attendance will be taken through QuickSchools in each class. Late entry into online classes will also be recorded.
- Students are expected to follow the expectations as per Hudson College’s high school Code of Behavior regardless of whether online or in class.
- The continuation of online classes in Semester 2 will be reevaluated at the end of December.
Hudson College is committed to the health and safety of our students, staff, and parents. We want to ensure that our transition back to the classroom is one providing students with flexible learning opportunities during this challenging period.
If you choose the online learning option commencing in September, please access the form below to register and submit by September 2, 2020, the deadline date.
